Aim(s) - The aims of this PDP module are for students to develop an understanding of employability, and the personal, social, academic, reflective and professional skills required. Additionally it will provide an accurate evidence base for their evolving employability attributes and skills.

Learning Outcomes - On completion of this module the student will be able to:

Identify their own learning styles and preferences and apply self-management and independent learning strategies to support their study at HE level 4; they must also take ownership of their work through responsible maintenance of individual e-portfolios of uploaded work, reflective logs and employability logs.

Devise and monitor an action plan for their personal development based on their awareness of the key aspects of employability, also developing appropriate and accurate evidence to support their progress.

Undertake appropriate research tasks and develop an appropriate academic writing style.

In addition, the assessment will test the following learning outcomes:

1. Assessment Task - Consider yourself as a newly hired employee in a multinational company in Oman. During your first day at work, the HR manager asked you to prepare a diary of your interactions with the other employees. As part of the company strategy on talent management, you will be required to prepare a reflective report on the workplace communication. The HR manager quips "this will be part of your personal development portfolio as an employee."

In lieu of this, prepare your report based on the structure given below:

I. Introduction (250-300 words)

a. Overview of workplace communication (provide citation)

b. Identify problems and challenges faced by employees about workplace communication (provide citation)

II. Discussion and Reflection (1200-1250 words)

a. Discuss the importance and applications of the following communication modes (provide citation for each mode):

- Interpersonal communication

- Public communication

- Virtual communication

b. Relate an excellent and worst personal experience on the communication modes in (a) and reflect on the lessons you learned.

III. My Development Plan (1200-1250 words)

Suppose the HR manager asked you to present a report in front of hundred employees, prepare your plan to deliver your presentation.

a. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses in public speaking (at least two strengths and two weaknesses)

b. List actions you will do to effectively deliver the message (at least two)

c. List actions you will do to further develop your public speaking skills (at least three)

IV. Conclusion (150-200 words)
